Động từ + to-infinitive / V-ing
Trong phần kiến thức này, người học cần lưu ý về các nội dung sau:
Các động từ thường theo sau bởi to-infinitive: agree, expect, manage, pretend, promise, attempt…
Các động từ thường theo sau bởi V-ing: finish, keep, stop, admit, deny, mind, avoid, discuss…
Một số động từ có thể theo sau bởi cả to-infinitive và V-ing và không thay đổi về nghĩa: start, begin, continue…
Một só động từ có thể theo sau bởi cả to-infinitive và V-ing, nhưng có sự thay đổi về nghĩa: remember, forget, try, stop…
Ví dụ:
Some people may manage to start their own business in the future. (Một số người có thể thành công trong việc khởi nghiệp của riêng họ trong tương lai.)
Employers should not deny their employees the opportunity to learn new skills. (Nhà tuyển dụng không nên từ chối cho nhân viên của họ cơ hội học tập kỹ năng mới.)
